About Josephine

Josephine began her musical life the way many students at Spring Music Studio begin theirs — sitting at a piano as a child, learning to read notes before she fully understood what music meant.

What changed everything was not a competition, or an exam result. It was a teacher who asked her what the music made her feel. That single question reshaped how she understood the instrument — and eventually, how she would teach it herself.

After completing her Degree in Music Education, Josephine pursued a Master in Performing Arts (Music), deepening her technical and interpretive craft at the highest academic level. It is a combination that remains rare in Malaysia, and it is the foundation of everything that happens at Spring Music Studio.

Spring Music Studio
Philosophy

01 The student comes before the syllabus.
Every lesson plan begins with the person sitting at the piano — their pace, their personality, their particular way of hearing music. The ABRSM syllabus is a framework, not a ceiling.

02 Technique and expression are inseparable.
A student who can play every scale perfectly but feels nothing when performing has only learned half the lesson. Josephine trains both hands and both halves of musical intelligence simultaneously.

03 Complete Music Exposure
Recitals, competitions and industry insigh ensure students experience music, not just practice it.

Josephine teaches a deliberately small number of students. This is not a volume business. It is a teaching practice.

Led by Principal

Taught by our Principal Ms. Josephine, our class hosts only a small number of students by design — because that is the only way to teach well.

We welcome parents to sit-in. Transparent.

Curious about what your child learns at our studio? We welcome parents to sit in anytime, with open hands.

Side-by-side Piano Placement

It is our belief that such placement enable us to show-and-tell, enabling an effective teaching in our lesson.

We care about happiness

We want our students to not only master piano techniques, but also learn with joy throughout their learning journey.

FAQ

Do I need a piano at home before lessons begin?
A keyboard with at least 61 weighted keys is sufficient for beginners. We can advise you on what to look for based on your child's age and the lessons they will be taking. You do not need to invest in a full acoustic piano before the first lesson.
How long are lessons?
Standard lessons are 45 minutes or 60 minutes. We will recommend the right duration after the trial lesson.
Do you teach music theory as well?
Yes. Music theory is integrated into every lesson from the beginning — it is not treated as a separate subject. For students preparing for ABRSM theory exams, dedicated theory sessions are available.
What if my child has tried piano before and stopped?
This is one of the most common situations we work with. A student who stopped lessons — whether due to a difficult teacher, lack of motivation, or life circumstances — often needs a very different kind of re-entry. We approach returners with particular care and zero judgement.
Do you offer lessons for complete adult beginners?
Absolutely. Adult beginners are warmly welcomed. Many of Josephine's most rewarding teaching relationships have been with adults who assumed they had left it too late. They had not.
